What operators charge.

What operators charge around the world, by specialty and experience level, in plain numbers.

Start with the floor, not the average.

Work out the income you want, add roughly thirty percent for tax, software and unpaid admin, then divide by the hours you can actually sell. That figure is your floor. The table below shows where the market usually lands once you are past it.

Hourly ranges by specialty

US dollars per hour. Entry is under two years, mid is two to five, senior is five plus.

SpecialtyEntryMidSenior

Executive Assistant$28 to 40$40 to 60$60 to 85
Online Business Manager$45 to 60$60 to 85$85 to 125

Three ways to charge

Hourly

Best for reactive work and new relationships. Track carefully and review after the first month.

Billed in blocks of 10 or 20 hours

Monthly retainer

Best for ongoing ownership. Predictable for both sides and the model most of our members prefer.

Typically 1,200 to 6,000 per month

Project

Best for a clear scope with a clear finish, like a systems build, a migration or a launch.

Quoted per project, 50 percent up front

What moves the number

Scope, not hours

Owning an outcome is worth more than completing a task list. The further you sit from the to do list, the higher the rate.

Specialist knowledge

Payroll, bookkeeping software, ecommerce operations and regulated industries all carry a premium because fewer people can do them well.

Response speed

Same day cover, on call windows and weekend availability are priced separately. Do not fold them into a standard retainer.

Client size

A twenty person company has more moving parts than a solo founder. The work is heavier and the rate should reflect that.

Rates, questions and awkward conversations

The questions operators ask us most about pricing, raising rates and holding the line.
